Volunteer Needs!

Team Canvassing

Canvassing, or door knocking, involves visiting neighborhoods to engage directly with individuals. It's a key strategy for political parties to identify supporters, persuade undecided voters, and register new voters, especially during the Get Out The Vote (GOTV) phase. Typically, an experienced canvasser pairs with a novice, where one speaks and the other collects data using the Mini-Van app. Teams are organized to canvas targeted homes, focusing on persuadable voters while avoiding strong Republican households. Canvassing usually occurs in two sessions, from 10-12 and 1-3, with a lunch break in between.

Phone Banking

Phone Banking is an engaging and energizing activity where volunteers come together to reach out to voters. Bring along your laptop and a phone, as we now utilize scripts on your computer that help track responses. Some scripts focus on encouraging people to vote (GOTV), while others aim to connect with those who may be swayed. You are welcome to join us at the Headquarters during designated phone banking hours or anytime the Headquarters are open to make your calls.

Writing Postcards

Voters who receive handwritten postcards are reminded and encouraged to cast their votes. Join us at Headquarters to help write postcards (a script will be provided), or pick up a packet to complete 100 postcards at home with friends or family. When you sign up for this activity, we kindly request a donation to cover the cost of stamps for the postcards.

Headquarters

Headquarters serves as a gathering spot for the community to gather information regarding the upcoming election. It’s an energetic and enjoyable environment to spend a three-hour shift. Numerous activities keep things organized, including distributing campaign signs, signing up volunteers, and selling buttons, stickers, and t-shirts. Additionally, you’ll need to explain postcards and assist with mailing. The Mecosta County Dems headquarters is located at 111 S Michigan Ave in Big Rapids, right across from the Red Fox Market. Current shifts for September are available on weekdays from noon to 3:00 PM and from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, as well as Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
